What are Growth Groups?
Growth Groups are small groups that gather together to discuss the Growth Group insert based off of the sermon in a fun and comfortable setting.
What is the curriculum?
Handouts created by the pastoral staff will be available every week at church and on the church website www.dsomaha.org. The information and questions on the handout will serve as the Growth Group curriculum. The questions will challenge you as you explore the Word of God in a fun-filled atmosphere with friends. In addition, you will be able to listen to the sermon online at www.dsomaha.org. While it may be helpful you do not need to listen to the sermon in order to be an active participant in the Growth Group. Many people have mentioned that the Growth Group insert on its own is a useful tool for Christian conversation and growth.
Growth Groups Schedule 2011-2012
We understand that life is busy and it is our goal to accommodate your busy lifestyle. We have conveniently divided the Growth Group calendar into semesters avoiding key times in the year when we know that life is crazy.
Fall: September 4 – November 13
Winter/Spring: January 8 – March 25
Summer: Growth Groups will meet occasionally as determined by the group.
How do I sign up for a Growth Group?
We will establish Growth Group leaders and the leaders will determine a place (home, church or restaurant), time (day and hour), frequency of gatherings (every week, every other week or once a month), and if the Growth Group is open to all people or people with similar life experience (retirees, parents with kids, etc.) before you sign up for Growth Groups. All this information will be known before you sign up so that you can schedule a Growth Group that fits your schedule.
We ask that everyone sign up for Growth Groups each semester. If your Growth Group wants to remain together after the semester is over that is welcomed but we request that the individuals in the Growth Group sign up. This model allows for new faces to be assimilated into an open Growth Group more efficiently. In addition, the semesters allow people the ability to meet with a new Growth Group if their old Growth Group meets on a night that no longer works in their schedule.
How often does a Growth Group meet?
While the Growth Groups will start and end on the same week each semester the number of times each Growth Group meets will vary. Some Growth Groups will meet every week allowing for 11 Growth Group gatherings per semester. Other Growth Groups will meet every other week totaling 6 Growth Group gatherings per semester. Still other Growth Groups will gather once a month totaling 4 Growth Groups gatherings per semester.
Growth Group Dynamics
Many Growth Groups will be open to all people however we will intentionally offer some Growth Groups designed to gather people together that share similar life experiences. Some examples include Growth Groups for retirees, parents with children, young couples, young professionals, empty nesters, college students, etc.
Sign ups for Growth Groups will begin in mid-August and the first Growth Group gathering will start soon thereafter. If you would like to be a Growth Group Leader please contact Pastor Tim at tim@dsomaha.org.
